What’s the Size of Your Pot? Mindsets are like pots—some are too small to hold the dreams we’re capable of chasing.
I was walking one day around the KLCC area in Kuala Lumpur, surrounded by the glittering towers, bustling sidewalks, and the unmistakable pulse of a financial hub.

People were dressed in suits, clutching their leather briefcases, rushing toward skyscrapers that seemed to pierce the sky. The air buzzed with ambition, transactions, and unspoken dreams of wealth and success.
But amidst all that momentum and movement, something else caught my eye.
There, on the side of the road opposite side the Public Bank Berhad building, sat a woman with a baby in her arms and a child by her side. They had a pot in front of them, and I had seen them before—many times over the past few months, day and night. Each time, they sat in the same spot, eyes downcast, glued to that small, empty pot, as though it held their entire world.
And maybe it did.
In that moment, something clicked for me. I realized that the pot wasn’t just a container for spare change—it was a symbol of something far bigger. For that woman and those children, that pot represented the size of their dreams, their hopes, and the limits of their livelihood.
It hit me hard.
That pot, small and humble, was their entire worldview. It defined everything they thought was possible—or impossible—for them. Because when you spend your life staring at a pot, hoping for coins to drop, your world shrinks to the size of that pot. You stop looking at the sky. You stop dreaming beyond survival. You stop believing there’s more out there than what’s in front of you.
And that’s not just about poverty. It’s about mindset.
In a place like KLCC, where millions are made and lost in the blink of an eye, that tiny pot on the sidewalk felt like a painful contrast. Two worlds existing side by side—but one stuck in scarcity, while the other raced toward abundance.
But here’s the thing: you don’t have to be sitting on the sidewalk to be trapped by the size of your pot.
Many of us are walking around with invisible pots of our own. We carry them in our minds and hearts, and without even realizing it, we let them define the limits of what we believe we can achieve.
Ask yourself:
- What’s the size of your pot?
- Is it big enough to hold your wildest dreams—or just your fears and limitations?
- Are you living life with your eyes glued to the small container in front of you, hoping for scraps—or are you reaching for something bigger, something limitless?
Sometimes, we don’t even realize how small our pots are because we’ve been taught to think small, to expect less, to settle. But what if you could break free from that mindset? What if you could expand your vision and shatter the invisible walls that are keeping you stuck?
The Invitation to Dream Bigger
It’s time to look up from the pot. It’s time to stop waiting for permission, for validation, or for someone to drop a coin in your life.
Because you are bigger than that pot.
You have the power to create, to dream, to build a life that’s not limited by the size of what’s in front of you right now. But it starts with awareness. It starts with asking hard questions:
- Where did your pot come from?
- Who taught you to think that small?
- And most importantly, how can you start expanding your pot, little by little, until it can hold everything you’ve ever wanted—and more?
In that brief moment on the KLCC sidewalk, I didn’t just see a beggar. I saw a mirror. A reflection of all the ways we limit ourselves without even realizing it. And I made a promise to myself that day: I will not live my life staring at a pot. I will not let my dreams be defined by someone else’s limits.
And neither should you.
So, what’s the size of your pot—and how can you make it bigger today?
Salima,
