Money Leaks vs. Money Seeds

Today’s reflection comes from a lesson I’ve learned deeply on my own money journey: We use money almost every day — and with every transaction, we experience one of two things: a leak or a seed. Money itself is neutral. It’s how we choose to use it that determines whether it quietly slips away or grows into something greater.

What is the difference between money leaks and money seeds.

The Key Difference? A money leak mostly leaves you empty or indifferent. A money seed leaves you nourished — maybe tired, maybe stretched — but proud. You know you didn’t just spend… you planted.

Money leaks

💰 Money leaks are the unconscious places where our money quietly slips away — often unnoticed, often on repeat — without giving anything meaningful back. They drain our resources without adding real value to our lives. What makes them tricky is how small they seem in the moment. A few dollars here, a few more there — but over time, they add up in ways we don’t always see. Let me share a few money leaks I’ve personally experienced.

💸 My Unintentional Money Leaks:

  • The Masterclass Subscription:
I enrolled for a full year and barely logged in. A lesson in romanticizing growth without creating space for it.
  • Overbuying Groceries:
I used to shop in bulk, thinking I was being wise — but week after week, I’d toss spoiled vegetables I never got around to cooking. Now? I buy only essentials weekly and pick up fresh veggies from the mini market in my condo as needed. Yes, they cost a little more — but I no longer waste food or money. And that shift in behavior has brought a quiet sense of financial respect and peace.
  • Buying Too Many Books:
I love books. But when I was planning to leave Malaysia, I realized shipping my collection would cost around $8,000. Eight. Thousand. Dollars.
It forced me to rethink: was I reading them? Was I keeping them out of habit, or out of pride? These are the kinds of leaks that come disguised as wisdom — but end up weighing us down.

🌊 My Intentional “Leaks” That Were Actually Soulful Seeds:

  • Paying for Convenience That Supports Your Energy and gives you time
  • Grocery delivery so you have time to rest especially as women when we are going through that sacred feminine time. Hiring a cleaner once a week so your weekends aren’t spent scrubbing floors. Getting that comfortable chair so you can write without back pain.
  • These aren’t luxuries — they’re energetic support systems.

Money Seeds

🎙️ Money Seeds: The Currency of Expansion. If money leaks are unconscious spending that drains us… Then money seeds are conscious investments — into our becoming. A money seed is any spending that nourishes you, grows you, expands you, or brings you closer to the version of yourself you’re becoming. It doesn’t always show immediate returns — but its value compounds in clarity, confidence, creativity, and calling. Here are a few real-life examples of money seeds

🌱 1. Investing in Aligned Education

You take a course, not out of pressure, but because it sparks something in you.
That coaching certification, writing masterclass, or interior design weekend retreat? It doesn’t just teach you — it transforms you. It becomes a steppingstone to a dream you’ve quietly nurtured for years.

🪴 Money Seed: Growth, confidence, clarity of purpose.

🌱 2. Creating a Sacred Environment

You invest in making your home feel like a sanctuary — from buying a high-quality bed that supports your reading and journaling habit, to investing in beautiful lighting or calming scents. Every time you walk in, you exhale. You feel safe. Supported.
You show up differently in your life and work because your space reflects the woman you are becoming.

🪴 Money Seed: Elevated self-worth, ease, inner peace.

🌱 3. Therapy, Coaching, or Energy Work

You spend money on healing — not to fix yourself, but to return to yourself. The sessions are intense, the breakthroughs emotional — but you walk out clearer. Braver. More aligned.

What’s that worth?

🪴 Money Seed: Emotional liberation, deeper self-trust.

🌱 4. A Beautiful Notebook + Pen You Love

Yes, even this can be a money seed.
Because now you’re journaling daily. Downloading your thoughts. Reconnecting with your dreams.
That $15 notebook became your portal to clarity.

🪴 Money Seed: Inner dialogue, consistent self-reflection.

🌱 5. The Pangkor Island Escape with Malisa:
After the first Covid lockdown was lifted, my colleague Malisa and I took a short trip to Pangkor Island. We stayed at a beautiful white hotel across the beach and rented a boat for a half-day tour. We stopped at different islands, just the two of us and the boat driver — drifting, breathing, living. That moment? It still lives in me. The calmness, the freedom, the simple joy.
The ROI wasn’t financial. It was sacred. That’s what I call a soul seed.

🪴 Money Seed: Renewed creativity, joy, connection to aliveness.

🌱 6. Giving From the Heart

You support a friend’s fundraiser. You give a generous tip to someone who made your day.
You send flowers to someone just because. That act echoes. You may never see the return, but the ripple effect is real.

🪴 Money Seed: Overflow energy, heart expansion, universal alignment.

🌱 7. Planting Money Seeds in the Right Soil

Education That Expands Earning Potential
Enrolling in courses, certifications, or programs that sharpen your skills or shift you into a higher-income bracket. A money seed that keeps multiplying through career or business growth.

Investing in a Good Laptop (or Tools of Your Trade)
If your work depends on tech, investing in quality equipment isn’t a luxury — it’s a money seed. A faster, more reliable laptop can increase your efficiency and earnings.

Creating Life & Opportunity Funds
Building a cushion not just for emergencies but also to seize once-in-a-lifetime opportunities when they show up.

Funding Estate Planning or Creating a Will
A profound form of financial self-respect. You’re planting seeds for your legacy and protecting your loved ones from unnecessary legal stress or disputes.

Paying for High-Quality Legal or Financial Advice
Investing in professionals (like lawyers, accountants, or financial planners) to set up your business or personal finances correctly from the beginning — this saves thousands in future mistakes and gives you peace of mind.

Supporting a Cause or Giving with Intention
Donating to charities, sponsoring education, or helping family members — when done with joy and clarity, this is soul-level wealth seeding.

Protecting Your Health – Proactively
Investing in regular health checkups, gym memberships, gym instructors, clean nutrition, therapy, or wellness tools. Because no wealth matters without well – being.

The goal isn’t to eliminate every money leak and only plant seeds. It is about being a good steward of your money and living in a financial equilibrium. A state of being where you become money conscious and where you begin to spend with awareness. Where even the leaks are sometimes intentional — because they give you something priceless in return: joy, rest, wonder, connection.

The Takeaway:

Not all spending is equal. Some money leaks drain your potential and leave you financially unprepared for your future because you leak money that could have been invested in buying an asset, stock, or a business, to name a few examples. A few “leaks” actually return to you in spirit — in energy, clarity, creativity, connection. And some money seeds are planted so quietly, you won’t see them bloom for years… but they will. They always do.

So, here’s a gentle invitation for you today:

📝 Journal Prompts:

  1. Where is my money leaking without intention?
What habits or patterns need an honest look?
  2. Where have I spent money in a way that felt deeply good — even if the ROI wasn’t financial?
What did I receive from that experience?
  3. How can I create more balance — reducing unconscious leaks, and planting more soulful seeds?

💛 Closing Thought:

Money is not just a number.
It’s energy. It’s memory. It’s expression.
It’s how we shape our days — and design the kind of life we want to look back on.

Spend with heart.
Spend with vision.
Spend with joy.
