A few years ago, after reading Arlan Hamilton’s book It’s About Damn Time, I remember closing the last page and feeling completely defeated. My heart was broken.
I thought, “Where on earth could I find an investment group I could be part of?”

And so, in my mind, I built a mountain I couldn’t climb.
Everywhere I looked, all I could see were people who had just enough to get by — no one who could possibly be part of something as big as I was dreaming. So, I settled for surviving. For a while.
But last year, as November approached, I chose my word for 2025: Wealthy.
Not rich — wealthy. Because I realized wealth is a mindset before it is ever a number.
That word opened something inside me. I began reading about money mindset, wealth creation, and financial community models. That’s when the idea of a tontine came to me. pooling money together within a trusted circle to achieve something greater than any of us could alone.
A tontine is a community savings system. Here’s how it works: a group of people comes together, and each person contributes a fixed amount of money every month. Then, one member of the group takes the full amount collected that month. The next month, another member receives it, and so on, until everyone has had their turn.
We started in February 2025, and three months later, I’ve completed the construction of our two-bedroom unit which was the reason I started the tontine to begin with.
And then, one day, I decided to do the math of what we as a community managed to pool together. In those Eight months, we pooled together almost USD 50,000.00.
That moment changed everything. Because when I saw that number, I saw the light.
I realized we — the same people I once believed we didn’t have enough — had just proven that together, we do.
I no longer needed to wait to be invited to someone else’s investment table. I could build my own.
All I had to do was approach the people I know, make a proposition, and trust that the right ones would show up.
We make things so difficult sometimes. We look at life as it is and forget that what we see is not all there is. We see the people we aspire to be as superior beings or lucky even chosen to be wealthy, when really — the only difference is how they think.
