Inspired by “In the Sphere of Silence” by Vijay Eswaran
“There is absolutely no high on this planet like feeling alive, especially when you can change the way you live. If you feel like a piece of wood floating without purpose being picked up by every wave and passing current, put a sail on that driftwood.
USE THE WIND AND CROSS THE SEAS.”
There are passages you read — and then there are passages that meet you at your soul’s door. This is one of them.
🩵 The Driftwood Feeling
At some point, most of us feel like that:
A piece of driftwood.
Floating. Pulled by obligations. Emotions. Deadlines. Other people’s choices.
No direction. Just movement for movement’s sake.
We confuse motion with purpose.
But there’s a difference between drifting and sailing. This quote reminds us: you can stop drifting at any moment.
You don’t need to wait until you feel ready.
You don’t need more resources.
You just need to put up a sail — and choose where to go
⛵ What Does It Mean to “Put Up a Sail”?
Putting up a sail doesn’t require perfection. It requires:
- A decision to stop giving your power away.
- A direction — even if it’s just one small goal, one sacred value, or one daily ritual.
- The courage to use the wind, even if that wind is chaos, pain, or discomfort.
In other words, you take whatever is pushing you — and instead of being tossed around by it, you let it move you with purpose.
Even hardship can become wind when you use it intentionally.
🌊 Journal Prompts to Help You Cross Your Own Sea
- Where in your life are you currently drifting instead of sailing?
- What does “putting up a sail” look like for you right now? Is it a decision? A habit? A boundary?
- What “wind” (even if uncomfortable) can you use right now to propel yourself forward?
- What is the “sea” you’re meant to cross next — and what would it feel like to finally arrive?
🌛 Closing Reflection
You may feel lost. You may feel small.
But even driftwood, when claimed with purpose, can cross oceans.
The wind doesn’t have to destroy you.
The sea doesn’t have to swallow you.
And your story isn’t over — not as long as you can still raise a sail and trust where your soul wants to go.
So,
USE THE WIND. CROSS THE SEAS.
And don’t forget you’re not doing it alone.
