Five frogs are sitting on a log.
Four decide to jump off.
How many frogs are left?
If you answered one, think again. The answer is five. Why? Because deciding to do something isn’t the same as actually doing it.
And that’s where many of us get stuck. We think about taking action. We plan for it. We visualize it. We even talk about it. Yet when the moment comes, we stay sitting on the log, paralyzed by indecision, fear, or distraction.
Why Thinking Isn’t Enough?
It’s easy to confuse awareness with action. You might be aware that you need to improve your health, leave a toxic job, or set better boundaries. You may have even made the decision to change. But until you take that first step, nothing actually shifts.
We live in a world that glorifies information. But gathering knowledge, reading books, and attending workshops will only take you so far. Real transformation comes when you apply what you’ve learned. When you stop thinking about the jump—and actually leap.
Journaling Prompt:
What’s something you’ve been thinking about doing for a long time but haven’t taken action on?
Why do you think you’re still sitting on the log? Write down any fears, excuses, or doubts that are holding you back.
The Courage to Leap
So, what holds us back from taking action? For most of us, it’s fear. Fear of failure, fear of the unknown, or fear of leaving our comfort zone. But here’s the thing: No amount of thinking will eliminate that fear. The only way to move past it is to act in spite of it.
Taking that first step—no matter how small—creates momentum. It signals to your brain, I’m doing this. And once you’re in motion, everything becomes easier. Action breeds more action. Confidence grows. And slowly, you become the person who doesn’t just sit on the log but dives headfirst into life.
Journaling Prompt:
Think about a time when you took action despite feeling afraid or unsure.
How did you feel afterward? What did that experience teach you about your ability to handle discomfort?
Living a Life of Action
Commitment isn’t about what you say or think. It’s about what you do. It’s about showing up for yourself every single day, even when it’s uncomfortable, inconvenient, or scary.
It’s easy to stay on the log. But deep down, you know that’s not where you’re meant to be. You’re meant to leap. To take bold, imperfect action. To stop waiting for the “perfect time” and start living with intention right now.
Journaling Prompt:
What small action can you take today that will move you closer to a goal or dream you’ve been “deciding” to pursue? Write it down—and then do it.
What’s Your Log?
Take a moment to reflect. What’s the one thing you’ve been “deciding” to do but haven’t acted on yet? Maybe it’s starting a new project, saying no to something that drains you, or pursuing a long-held dream.
Whatever it is, today is the day to stop thinking and start doing.
The world doesn’t change because of decisions. It changes because of action.
